As its been rumored for weeks, it is now looking more likely that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be filmed primarily in Atlanta, Georgia -- and that production will not return to locations in North Carolina used in the first film.
Asheville news reporter Russ Bowen took to Twitter this morning to update followers on the status of Catching Fire. He said filming was set to begin tentatively on September 10th in Atlanta
Bowen reported that crews were already working on pre-production at a facility in Atlanta, and he says signs that the movie may film in North Carolina are looking "bleaker and bleaker."
Despite early conversations this year, the owner of the Henry River Mill Village (the North Carolina location used to film scenes in District 12) tells Bowen he has not heard from filmmakers.
Bowen indicated that North Carolina didn't work hard enough to secure filming for Catching Fire-- a sentiment shared by Oregonians after production of the Twilight movies left Oregon for Canada in 2009.
Besides expecting to film in Atlanta, it's also expected that Catching Fire will do some filming in Hawaii for the tropical setting of the Hunger Games arena.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the second movie in the franchise, and is expected to hit theaters on November 22, 2013.
