The second “Hunger Games” movie sequel may just be getting a little more gleeful—after all the dangerous mayhem of the Third Quarter Quell, that is.
In recent “Catching Fire” film news, Grant Gustin—who played the devilishly handsome but mean character Sebastian on the hit “Glee” show on FOX—just announced this week he has officially auditioned for a casting role in the next “Hunger Games” flick. According to the “Franchise Herald” this Thursday morning, the actor confirmed he is interested in being cast as Finnick Odair in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ second book in the bestselling franchise.
The “Glee” actor revealed to “ET Canada” this week that he did try out for the hotly anticipated part of Finnick Odair. Although he is described in the book as strikingly good-looking and dangerous with a trident, the actor added that the casting studio told him they haven’t decided what kind of specific actor they would want to portray the tribute from District 4 just yet.
“I have officially auditioned for the role of Finnick Odair,” said Gustin in the interview. “I don’t think [the ‘Catching Fire’ movie producers] know what they are looking for yet, but yes, I did audition for the part.”
Many other established actors have also shown interest or been considered fan favorites for Finnick in “The Hunger Games” movie sequel. Some of these names include Taylor Kitsch (confirmed not to be cast for the part), Hunter Parris, Armie Hammer, Trevor Donovan (also confirmed not to be cast), and Garrett Hedlund.
Filming for “Catching Fire” is expected sometime this summer or very early in the fall, but no confirmation as to whom Lionsgate Entertainment is leaning toward in the Finnick casting process has been revealed at this point. Many main characters from the first film will reprise their roles, including Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, and Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket.
Two other casting stars have been confirmed to join Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne on the sequel studio set. Jena Malone has been officially cast by the producers as Johanna Mason, while actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has accepted the role of new Head Gamemaker in the “Catching Fire” film, Plutarch Heavensbee.
Lionsgate Entertainment also recently revealed that they will be splitting the third installment of “The Hunger Games” trilogy by Suzanne Collins, “Mockingjay,” into two separate movies. “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” is scheduled for a November 2014 release, while “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” is tentatively set to hit U.S. theaters with a release date in November 2015.
