Jennifer Lawrence is nominated for best female performance in MTV Movie Awards 2012

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games - the movie adaptation of the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins is nominated for the "Best Female Performace" of this year's MTV Movie Awards.

The Hunger Games is also nominated for the Movie of the Year award and tops the list with 8 nominations together with "Bridesmaids".

Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne were also nominated for Best Male Performance and Breakthrough Performance respectively.

Voting begins online Tuesday at 8 a.m. Eastern time.

This year's 21st annual MTV Movie Awards will be presented on June 3 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City and broadcast live on MTV.
