Jennifer Lawrence’s Long Lost Film’s Streaming Release

It seemed like a match made in heaven when filmmaker Susanne Bier announced the repairing of Silver Linings Playbook alum Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper for the movie Serena back in 2012. But Lawrence fans soon began to wonder if instead the film was destined for purgatory when, three years later, no American theatrical release came to fruition.
Jennifer Lawrence, an Oscar and Golden Globe winner, is still riding the peak of the fame wave, but even she is not immune to the occasional film flop. And the unconventional release of a flick that stars Lawrence and the other oft nominated Cooper leaves some to wonder if this is her flop.

Recent articles from media sources such as Variety announced the release of Serena to online streaming services such as iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, and Google Play a full three weeks before the U.S. theatrical debut at the end of March. And while Susanne Bier, the Danish director at the helm, blames the delay on the busyness of Lawrence with other projects stating the actress “only had one day off in two years” to do voice over work for the flick, its European release was met with heavy criticism and confusion.

Magnolia Pictures president Eamonn Bowles had discussed in an interview that he had seen multiple versions of the movie suggesting that even with Lawrence and Coopers unquestionable chemistry and talent, the film itself may have structural issues. And critics have lambasted the film, calling the use of someone with the talent caliber of Jennifer Lawrence a “waste.”

While the poor reviews may keep theatergoers from shelling out money for astronomical ticket prices, Magnolia Pictures’ move to put Serena on video-on-demand services is undoubtedly their way of betting that Jennifer Lawrence fans will still pay up to $10.99 to swoon over Lawrence in the privacy of their own homes, and they’re probably not wrong.

Last year, Jennifer Lawrence was named by Forbes as the highest grossing actor of 2014 and she continues to be one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood.

Jennifer’s highly anticipated final Hunger Games film Mockingjay Part 2 comes out in November, while she is currently wrapping up her third David O. Russell film, Joy, set for a December, 2015, release. And in typical Jennifer Lawrence fashion, she won’t have much time to catch her breath, as it was recently announced she has agreed to star in the new Steven Spielberg biopic It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War.

So it seems regardless of whether or not Serena even breaks even financially, it’s just a minor bleep on the successful Lawrence’s radar.

Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Lawrence to star in biopics of groundbreaking businesswomen

(Photo : theguardian.com)

Tupperware vs mops as Lawrence films Joy, about self-wringing mop inventor Joy Mangano while Bullock’s film about Tupperware promoter Brownie Wise still in development.

One was a marketing genius who inspired housewives to earn their own money through Tupperware parties; the other was the shrewd inventor of the self-wringing mop and space-saving clothes hangers. Brownie Wise and Joy Mangano were both trailblazing businesswomen who reached the top of their professions through hard work, talent and charisma.

Their unusual life stories are being brought to the big screen in separate films, already being billed as the battle of the domestic goddesses, with two of the most respected actresses in Hollywood playing the roles.

Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Lawrence will be competing to see who can best portray these real-life heroines. Lawrence is in Boston filming Joy, a comedy-drama that charts the meteoric career of Mangano, a single mother of three, who has patented more than 100 inventions, including her famous mop.

Already there have been reports of tension between the Hunger Games actress and the film’s director, David O Russell, over the way the inspiring story should be told. “He was screaming at her, she was screaming at him,” an eyewitness told the New York Post, saying that the air rang with profanities. Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein was also reportedly asked to leave because his presence was a distraction.

The 24-year-old Oscar winner went on Facebook last week to deny the reports. “This movie is going great and I’m having a blast making it!” she wrote.

Bullock’s film about Tupperware is still in development and sources at her film company say the 50-year-old actress, also an Oscar winner, wants to get her portrayal right and does not want to rush the project. This is Bullock’s first role since Gravity, which earned her a record-breaking $70m.

Bullock’s film is based on Tupperware Unsealed, written by Bob Kealing. He relates how Earl Tupper developed the food storage containers, applying for a patent in 1947.

Tupper was at a loss how to market the products and discovered Wise, a divorcee and mother, who had a prodigious talent for selling and was a “dazzling, intelligent and outgoing woman”.

She set up parties for stay-at-home mothers in the postwar baby boom era, showing them how to “burp” the lid to force air out of the colourful bowls and create a vacuum. Sales took off, as women had previously had to resort to putting shower caps over dishes to prevent food from spoiling.

Jennifer Lawrence Releases Statement on David O. Russell Rumors

Jennifer Lawrence just released a personal statement on her Facebook account to clear up all those nasty rumors about a “fight” with David O. Russell on the set of Joy.

A report was released saying the actress and director had a screaming match, but a Fox rep said it was all method acting to get hyped up for the scene.

“Hey guys! It’s Jen!” she wrote on her page. “I know I don’t go on here a lot because I can barely work email but there’s been a terrible rumor going around the last 24 hours so I wanted to clear it up.”

David O. Russell is one of my closest friends and we have an amazing collaborative working relationship,” Jennifer continued. “I adore this man and he does not deserve this tabloid malarkey. This movie is going great and I’m having a blast making it!”

Joy is the third movie the two stars are collaborating on after Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.

Why Wasn't Jennifer Lawrence At The Oscars?

Given her back-to-back-to-back Oscar nominations, Jennifer Lawrence has come to be seen as an Academy Awards mainstay. Then why was she a no-show at this week's ceremony?

Simple: Work. The 24-year-old actress is filming Joy, her latest film collaboration with director David O. Russell, in snowy Boston. Yes, far, far away from the red carpet and those pesky tripping hazards.

Sources have told People that the actress has been using her time in Boston to stay in shape. Lawrence has reportedly been taking Flywheel classes at the Shops at Prudential Center.

"She comes in after the lights go down, and sneaks out before they go on," one Flywheel regular told the magazine.

The Kentucky native was also spied shopping at the mall on Oscar Sunday. She and a bodyguard were also photographed walking around the Back Bay neighborhood. Lawrence was decked out in winter gear and clutching her small dog, Pippi.

It's not quite as glam as, say, rubbing shoulders with Channing Tatum or scoring a Lego Oscar, but the girl's earned a break.

Jennifer Lawrence Just Entered The Guinness Book Of World Records

BY KRISTY PUCHKO
Jennifer Lawrence Just Entered The Guinness Book Of World Records

Though just 24 years old, Jennifer Lawrence has already had an extraordinary career. In 2010, she garnered critical acclaimnot to mention her first Academy Awards nomination--for the gritty indie drama Winter's Bone. In 2013, she won her first Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook, and the following year earned a third nod for her scene-stealing turn in American Hustle. But it's been The Hunger Games that has made her an international icon, not to mention a Guinness Book World Record holder.

Movie Pilot reports Jennifer Lawrence will have her name included in the 2015 Guinness Book of World Records, which will officially name her the highest-grossing action heroine the world has ever known. This latest edition of the almanac of every accomplishment--from the incredible to the odd and arcane
will hit bookshelves on September 11th, 2014.

Lawrence owes this honor completely to Katniss Everdeen, the tenacious protagonist at the center of The Hunger Games franchise. It's almost hard to remember when the first film in this series seemed like a major risk, demanding audiences to turn out to a movie with a rising starlet as its lead. Of course, under the direction of Gary Ross, The Hunger Games lit up at the box office.

Its opening weekend, this adaptation of the popular Suzanne Collins' novel not only won the top spot, but did so with an outrageous total of $152 million dollars. For some idea of scale, that's $24 million more than the established superhero sequel Iron Man 2 managed on it debut. By the time The Hunger Games left theaters, the female-fronted actioner had pulled in more than $691 million worldwide, breaking box office records, and launching Lawrence to superstar status.

In the winter of 2013, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire fared even better. It raked in $158 million opening weekend, $424 million domestic and $864 million worldwide. Surpassing The Hunger Games, the second installment became the highest grossing action heroine movie ever, blowing past Linda Hamilton's Terminator 2: Judgment Day ($204 mil domestic), Angelina Jolie's Mr. & Mrs. Smith ($186 mil), and Sigourney Weavers Aliens ($85 mil). The Hunger Games: Catching Fire also earned the title of highest domestic-grossing film of 2013, beating out Iron Man 3. Plus it broke into the #10 spot for highest domestic grossing films of all time, right behind E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial.

Just two movies in to a four-film franchise, The Hunger Games series has already made $1.52 billion worldwide. And with excitement over The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 reaching a fevered pitch ahead of its fall release, it looks like Katniss's world dominance is destined to continue.

Could she beat Guardians of the Galaxy out of their top spot on the domestic charts? Might she be able to topple Transformers: Age of Extinction from its reign of the worldwide charts? We'll see when The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 opens November 21st, 2014.

Jennifer Lawrence: "I'm Going to Turn My Phone Off for a Year" After Final Hunger Games Movie!

Jennifer Lawrence is flourishing—both personally and professionally, it seems—but sometimes this 23-year-old Oscar winner just wants to unplug and unwind!

So much so, in fact, that she joked to Empire magazine, "…on the last day of Hunger Games [filming the final installment, Mockingjay Part 2], I'm going to turn my phone off for a year!"

(Photo : AP)

"It's okay, it's my fault," she explained, adding, "I get little breaks here and there." It is nice to disconnect every now and then—although 12 months phone-free might be hard to do. Plus, if Jen didn't have a phone, how could she keep in touch with her X-Men: Days Of Future Past costar Halle Berry? Full Story here.
