It has been an exciting 24 hours for The Silver Linings Playbook and Hunger Games actress who also won two People's Choice Awards last night as well as receiving a Bafta nomination.
Jennifer Lawrence, one of Hollywood's hottest rising stars, believes it is a good time to be a young actress, adding recent months had proved a “season” of strong women roles.
The 22-year old was today nominated for the leading actress award at the Oscars for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook.
This came a day after she was also named on the shortlist for leading actresses at the Baftas, which proved an “amazing feeling” she said.
The 22-year old is at the forefront of a generation of talented young actresses, who are beginning to receive increasing attention.
A year ago not a single woman made the shortlist for the Bafta Rising Star Award; earlier this week four out of five were female.
The shortlist included Elizabeth Olsen, Juno Temple and Andrea Riseborough all of whom are tipped for mainstream stardom.
Lawrence told The Independent: “Through the years I’ve been reading scripts there are clearly seasons; sometimes it favours men and other times it is good for women of a certain age,” before adding: “At the moment it has swung towards strong women roles.”
In Silver Linings Playbook, she has been hailed by the critics for the nuanced performance of a young woman with mental health issues opposite Bradley Cooper, who was also nominated at both the Baftas and Oscars.
She said that playing the character “was energising… Each take was something new” adding it was pretty “exhausting”.
She was drawn to Silver Linings Playbook “by the script and director David O’Russell. I just love his characters and the way he works with the actors.”
With her star on the rise with the forthcoming sequel to The Hunger Games and a potential best actress Oscar, she can deal with the fame. “At the beginning it was scary, but I’m getting a grasp on it now.”
Last night The Hunger Games won five trophies at the People's Choice Awards with Lawrence taking gongs for being "face of heroism" and for her onscreen chemistry with Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth.
